Hello, Mayfield athletes and families! As part of the Newcastle Netball Association, we understand just how unpredictable rainy weekends can be. To help you face these challenges head-on, we've compiled the essentials of Newcastle's wet weather policy. Our goal is to keep you informed and prepared, so let's dive in.
Who Calls the Shots?
Whether the day's matches are played or not is decided by the Newcastle Netball Association's Management Team and Leadership Group Officers. During Winter and Tri-Series Competitions, they thoughtfully make courtside decisions, prioritizing the safety of players and officials against sudden changes in weather and court conditions.
Staying Informed
Once decisions are made, Newcastle Netball Association provides updates across all their Media Outlets. From their website to social media pages, these platforms will help you stay informed. At Mayfield Netball Club, we're committed to keeping you in the loop; as soon as we receive news, we'll post an announcement in our WhatsApp announcements page. Additionally, both Mayfield and Newcastle will promptly share updates via Facebook and Instagram posts.
We know waiting for an update can be agonizing—especially when Saturday's game hangs in the balance and the club’s chat groups are bustling with anticipation. Rest assured, the Newcastle team works hard to make this process as quick and seamless as possible.
Dealing with Cancellations
Weather-related disruptions can be a headache. Here’s how Newcastle manages them:
First Round: If games are canceled due to rain, they won't be replayed and won't affect points.
Second Round: Similar rules apply unless the corresponding first-round game wasn't played. In that case, Newcastle plans for designated weather dates in their fixtures schedule.
Games canceled in these rounds won't be rescheduled unless they impact semi-final positions. For critical semi-final and final matches, they’ll be moved to future weekdays or the next available Saturday. Persistent poor weather during grand finals may result in declaring joint winners.
Handling Game Abandonments
If the weather takes a turn during a match:
If games are called off before half-time, they don't count as played.
When called at or after half-time, scores at those moments will be the final tally.
There may be times when a team, finding adverse conditions and an unfavorable score, wishes to end the game early. This decision requires mutual agreement between teams. Newcastle allows these proposals, with forfeits counting only for early calls.
While playing in the rain might sometimes add an adventurous twist, adhering to safety guidelines is crucial. Our goal is to keep you safe and informed, delivering a smooth and enjoyable netball experience.
For updates, remember to check Newcastle’s and Mayfield’s online channels regularly. Together, as Mayfield members, let’s enjoy the game—rain or shine!
